Quick answer

To **kick a player**, use `kick name reason`, which only disconnects them. To **ban**, use `ban name reason`, which blocks them from returning. To block the address, use `ban-ip`. To undo a ban, use `pardon name`. All of them run in the panel console or in game with OP.

## Kick vs. ban[](https://streethosting.com.br/en/guides/minecraft/ban-player-minecraft-server#kick-vs-ban)

Kick and ban solve different problems. A kick is a push out the door: it works as a warning, stops a momentary abuse, and the person can come back. A ban lasts until you lift it, and it exists for people who griefed, harassed others or seriously broke the rules.

| Command | What it does | When to use it |
| ------- | -------------------------------------- | -------------------------- |
| kick | Disconnects right away, free to rejoin | Warning or momentary abuse |
| ban | Blocks the username until lifted | Grief, abuse, cheating |
| ban-ip | Blocks the connection address | People who switch accounts |
| pardon | Removes a ban | Mistake or second chance |

## The commands in practice[](https://streethosting.com.br/en/guides/minecraft/ban-player-minecraft-server#comandos)

1. Kick: `kick Fulano spam no chat`.
2. Ban a username: `ban Fulano grief na base`.
3. Ban an address: `ban-ip Fulano` or the IP directly.
4. See the list of banned players: `banlist`.

Always write a short reason in the command. It gets logged and helps you and your staff remember why that person was punished.

## Undoing a ban[](https://streethosting.com.br/en/guides/minecraft/ban-player-minecraft-server#desfazer-banimento)

Typed the wrong name or decided to give someone a second chance? Use `pardon Fulano` to release the username and `pardon-ip` followed by the address to release the connection. The player can join again with no extra steps.

## Dealing with griefers[](https://streethosting.com.br/en/guides/minecraft/ban-player-minecraft-server#grifadores)

A ban fixes the present, but it does not repair the damage. To roll back destroyed builds and find out who did what, install a logging plugin. See [how to set up CoreProtect for grief rollback](https://streethosting.com.br/en/guides/minecraft/coreprotect-rollback-grief-minecraft). With it you undo the damage in seconds and confirm the culprit before applying the ban.

* Whitelist on to keep strangers out
* CoreProtect installed to roll back damage
* Automatic backup as a second layer
* Clear rules posted on Discord

## Moderating well[](https://streethosting.com.br/en/guides/minecraft/ban-player-minecraft-server#moderar-bem)

The best moderation prevents the problem before it happens. Locking the server down with [a whitelist and ops](https://streethosting.com.br/en/guides/minecraft/minecraft-whitelist-setup) greatly reduces the need for bans. If your community has grown and moderation has become a heavy routine, a managed panel helps. Check out [Minecraft Pro](https://streethosting.com.br/en/minecraft-pro).

## Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between kick and ban?

Kick only disconnects the player, who can rejoin right away. Ban blocks them from coming back until you lift it. Use kick for a quick warning and ban for serious cases.

How do I ban someone who keeps switching accounts?

The ban-ip command blocks the connection address, not just the username. It helps against people who create new accounts. On offline-mode servers it is less effective, so use a whitelist instead.

I banned the wrong person. What now?

Use pardon followed by the name to remove the ban, or pardon-ip to release an address. The player can join normally again afterward.

Is there a way to avoid having to ban so often?

Yes. Turn on the whitelist so only the people you approve can join, and use a logging plugin such as CoreProtect to roll back damage without punishing blindly.
