It accepts non-premium accounts, but it drops Mojang verification, which opens the door to someone joining with another player's username. If you use offline mode, install a login plugin such as AuthMe and protect the spawn. ## What offline mode is[](https://streethosting.com.br/en/guides/minecraft/cracked-minecraft-server-offline-mode#o-que-e-offline-mode) `server.properties` has an option called `online-mode`. When it is true, the server asks Mojang to confirm the identity of each player. When it is false, that check disappears and the server accepts any client. This is the mode the community calls cracked. ## What changes on the server[](https://streethosting.com.br/en/guides/minecraft/cracked-minecraft-server-offline-mode#o-que-muda) * The server accepts accounts that are not original Mojang accounts. * Identity verification at login goes away. * Skins and some online features may not work the same way. Regardless of the mode, Mojang's EULA still applies to your server. It is worth understanding this in [what the EULA is](https://streethosting.com.br/en/guides/minecraft/what-is-minecraft-server-eula). ## Security risks[](https://streethosting.com.br/en/guides/minecraft/cracked-minecraft-server-offline-mode#riscos) Without Mojang verification, anyone can join using someone else's username. If an administrator does not have a protected password, an impostor can take their place and do serious damage. ## Protecting the login[](https://streethosting.com.br/en/guides/minecraft/cracked-minecraft-server-offline-mode#proteger-login) * An authentication plugin such as AuthMe requiring a password * Whitelist on when your audience is closed * Spawn protected against impostor grief * OP only for accounts with a strong password AuthMe creates a password for each player, which recovers part of the security you lost. Combine it with [a whitelist and ops](https://streethosting.com.br/en/guides/minecraft/minecraft-whitelist-setup) to lock down access. ## Alternatives[](https://streethosting.com.br/en/guides/minecraft/cracked-minecraft-server-offline-mode#alternativas) If the goal is to include mobile players, the safest route is Geyser, which connects Bedrock players to Java without turning off verification for everyone. See [Geyser and crossplay](https://streethosting.com.br/en/guides/minecraft/geyser-crossplay-minecraft) or host a [Minecraft Bedrock](https://streethosting.com.br/en/minecraft-bedrock) server directly. It is the popular name for a server running in offline mode (online-mode set to false). In this mode the server does not ask Mojang to verify players, so it accepts accounts that are not premium. In exchange, it loses identity checking. What is the biggest risk of offline mode? Without Mojang verification, anyone can join using someone else's username. Without a login plugin, a person can impersonate an administrator. That is why AuthMe is practically mandatory. How do I protect an offline mode server? Use an authentication plugin such as AuthMe to require a password for each player, turn on the whitelist when it makes sense, and protect the spawn. This lowers the risk of identity theft inside the server. Is there a way to include mobile players without offline mode? Yes. Geyser lets Bedrock players, who are common on mobile, join a Java server without turning off verification for everyone. It is a safer alternative.
