Quick answer

To **create a Minecraft server** safely: (1) get hosting with a strong CPU and a presence in Brazil; (2) launch **Paper** on the version you want; (3) accept the **EULA**; (4) adjust `server.properties` and the view distance; (5) import or generate a world; (6) set up DNS; (7) test with staff before any marketing. The operating basics are simple: back up before changes, keep a record of versions and monitor continuously.

## Before you upload files[](https://streethosting.com.br/en/guides/minecraft/how-to-create-a-minecraft-server#antes-de-subir-arquivos)

Many projects die in the first week for lack of minimal planning. Even before you click "install", define the **type of server**: relaxed survival, light RPG, a city with an economy, minigames or a heavy modpack. Each mode has a different appetite for RAM, storage and CPU. Write down your _must-have plugins_, not thirty "cool" extras that you install and never configure, because every new jar is a bug vector and an attack surface.

Also read [how to choose the best Minecraft host in Brazil](https://streethosting.com.br/en/guides/minecraft/best-minecraft-host-brazil) to align your expectations with market reality, especially if you are comparing price without looking at CPU isolation and backup quality. For friends and a first community without having to pick gigabytes, start on [Minecraft Fácil](https://streethosting.com.br/en/minecraft-facil#planos) (Party, Plus, SMP or casual Pro). For networks, extreme modpacks or fine-grained RAM choice: [Minecraft Pro Ryzen](https://streethosting.com.br/en/minecraft-pro#plans) with a data center in São Paulo.

* A realistic number of concurrent players at peak (an event, not the average).
* A fixed Minecraft version for the season; update on a schedule.
* A short list of plugins plus the reason for each one.
* An off-site backup account (weekly world download).

## Choosing a version and jar[](https://streethosting.com.br/en/guides/minecraft/how-to-create-a-minecraft-server#escolhendo-versao-e-jar)

### Vanilla, Paper, Purpur, Spigot, Fabric?

Bukkit/Paper forks dominate servers with traditional Java plugins. Fabric is needed for certain modern mods; Forge still reigns in classic modpacks. Don't mix philosophies without reading the documentation: a Spigot plugin does not run on Fabric. If your idea involves a modpack, jump straight to the guide on [Minecraft modpack hosting with Forge/Fabric](https://streethosting.com.br/en/guides/minecraft/minecraft-modpack-hosting) before going further, because the sizing changes completely.

* Paper: best value for survival and hubs with plugins.
* Purpur: an extra layer of tunables once you have mastered Paper.
* Fabric: excellent with light mods and technical servers.
* Forge: heavy modpacks, give it generous RAM headroom.

| Step | Focus | Common mistake |
| ------------- | ------------------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------- |
| Major version | Freeze it per season | Updating in the middle of an event without a snapshot |
| Jar build | A stable Paper build | An experimental build without a backup |
| Java runtime | The version the host recommends | Silent mismatch in the log |

## First run and base configuration[](https://streethosting.com.br/en/guides/minecraft/how-to-create-a-minecraft-server#primeira-execucao-e-config)

On the first start, the server generates its default folders and files. Stop the process, open `eula.txt` and set `eula=true` only if you agree with the Mojang terms. This is not pointless bureaucracy, it is a legal requirement to operate. Next, adjust `server.properties`: `motd`, `max-players`, `difficulty`, `pvp`, `enforce-secure-profile` according to your policy, and `view-distance` with a conservative value (you raise it later if there is headroom left, which saves you from hidden lag).

In the **Paper** ecosystem, the files in `config/` deserve a calm read: `paper-global.yml` controls aggressive or gentle optimizations, and wrong decisions here show up as strange bugs (mobs that don't spawn, redstone behaving differently). Document every change; you will thank yourself six months from now. Performance details are in [how to reduce lag on a Paper server](https://streethosting.com.br/en/guides/minecraft/reduce-lag-paper-server).

Never expose the control panel or FTP with a password reused from random services. A leaked credential takes a server down faster than an amateur DDoS: malicious ops restore an old world, install miners or steal the map.

## DNS and player access[](https://streethosting.com.br/en/guides/minecraft/how-to-create-a-minecraft-server#dns-e-acesso-dos-jogadores)

Players join by IP:port or hostname. A nice hostname requires DNS: the typical setup is an **A** record pointing to the IP provided by the host. Some providers also document **SRV** if you want to hide a non-default port; follow your panel's docs so you don't end up with the wrong proxy mix. DNS propagation can take minutes or hours; test with external tools before you shout victory on Twitter.

Keep a pinned message on Discord with the IP/port, the exact client-side version and the list of required mods (if any). It cuts 40% of the repeated questions in the first week.

1. Create the subdomain play.yourdomain.com at your DNS provider.
2. Point it at the instance's dedicated IP (without an absurdly aggressive TTL).
3. Validate from outside your home network, routers lie with their cache.
4. Document the fallback: the numeric IP still works if DNS fails.

## Plugins, security and go-live[](https://streethosting.com.br/en/guides/minecraft/how-to-create-a-minecraft-server#plugins-seguranca-e-go-live)

With the world up, the social and administrative layer arrives. Install minimal moderation tools: chat alerts, action logging, anti-cheat proportional to the server's risk, and an economy system only if you have time to balance it. Every new plugin needs a round of testing on a copy of the world or in a staging environment if the host allows it. Changes in production without testing tend to cause avoidable incidents.

Future scaling may involve a [Ryzen VPS for Minecraft](https://streethosting.com.br/en/guides/vps/ryzen-vps-for-minecraft) when you need to stack services (an external database, a custom reverse proxy, edge services). While managed hosting covers your needs, focus on community and content, two things hardware alone doesn't create. For an estimated monthly budget, read [how much it costs to host a Minecraft server](https://streethosting.com.br/en/guides/minecraft/how-much-does-a-minecraft-server-cost-in-brazil).

When you close out the go-live, announce a recurring maintenance window (even if it is just "only when needed") and train two operators if possible. A server's health can't depend on one person who disappears on Sunday. Good luck, and happy crafting.

Before go-live, go through the [free StreetHosting tools](https://streethosting.com.br/en/ferramentas): you can confirm the server responds from outside, build the MOTD with color, and read a crash report and a lag profile without installing anything on the machine.

## Frequently asked questions

Paper or Vanilla to start with?

For almost every public server with plugins, Paper is the sensible starting point: less lag, community security patches and a mature ecosystem. Vanilla makes sense for tiny communities or experimental snapshots without plugins.

Can I host on my PC at home?

Possibly, but a residential IP, CGNAT, unstable upload and the lack of Anti-DDoS make the experience fragile. It works for test sessions with friends; for a stable community, professional hosting is worth the money.

Do I need my own domain?

It isn't mandatory, but it reduces friction: players memorize play.yourdomain.com more easily than a string of numbers. It also makes a future IP change easier if the provider moves your node.

How long does it take to go online?

With a mature control panel and a small world, between one and three hours for a lean version with essential plugins. Modpacks and large migrations can take a whole day with responsible testing.
