# Do you need to know RAM and CPU to host a Minecraft server?

RAM, CPU and NVMe scare off people who just want a server for their friends. This guide explains why you do not need to master specs to get started.

Quick answer

**No.** For casual hosting, choose the plan by the size of your group (Party, Plus, SMP or Pro in the Fácil line) instead of comparing gigabytes and processor cores. StreetHosting already sizes RAM, CPU and disk for each type of use.

## Why specs are scary[](https://streethosting.com.br/en/guides/minecraft/minecraft-server-ram-and-cpu-explained#por-que-assusta)

Opening a hosting page and seeing "4 GB RAM", "Ryzen", "NVMe" and "vCPU" feels like it needs a computer science degree. Plenty of people give up before inviting their first friend because they think they will choose wrong and the server will crash.

In practice, someone who wants to play survival with friends or run a small SMP should not start with a hardware spreadsheet. They should start with a human question: _how many people will join at the same time?_

## What RAM and CPU mean (without the jargon)[](https://streethosting.com.br/en/guides/minecraft/minecraft-server-ram-and-cpu-explained#o-que-significam)

### RAM: working memory

Think of RAM as the table where the server lays out the world while it runs. A table that is too small = everything slows down when more people join or heavy mods load. A big table = more room to grow.

### CPU: processing power

The CPU is the "brain" that calculates redstone, mobs, chunks and plugins all at once. An idle server barely uses it; a full server with farms and mods uses a lot.

In practice you do not choose the CPU, the hosting does. Your job is to pick the right plan for the size of your project.

## Plans built around use, not numbers[](https://streethosting.com.br/en/guides/minecraft/minecraft-server-ram-and-cpu-explained#planos-por-uso)

On [Minecraft Fácil](https://streethosting.com.br/en/minecraft-facil), each plan already comes with resources matched to how you use it:

* **Party:** up to 5 players, pure vanilla, no mods.
* **Plus:** up to 10 players, up to 10 mods or plugins.
* **SMP:** up to 16 players, unlimited mods, community.
* **Pro (Fácil):** large projects and heavy modpacks.

Instead of asking "how many GB do I need?", ask "does my group fit on Party, or do I already need Plus?". See the [plan selection guide](https://streethosting.com.br/en/guides/minecraft/which-minecraft-hosting-plan-to-choose) to decide in two minutes.

## When specs really matter[](https://streethosting.com.br/en/guides/minecraft/minecraft-server-ram-and-cpu-explained#quando-specs-importam)

Technical specs matter again once the project grows past casual: hundreds of players, events for YouTube, BungeeCord networks or extremely heavy modpacks. That is when fine-grained sizing makes sense, and the path is the [Minecraft Pro with Ryzen](https://streethosting.com.br/en/minecraft-pro) line, where you choose gigabytes and hardware for networks and extreme modpacks.

* Casual beginner: choose Party, Plus, SMP or Pro on Fácil.
* Do not compare GHz or CPU models, compare group size.
* Vanilla on Party; light mods on Plus; community on SMP; heavy on Pro.
* Not sure? Talk to support in Portuguese before you buy.

## Frequently asked questions

Is 4 GB of RAM too little for Minecraft?

It depends on how you use it. For friends with light mods, it works well. Heavy modpacks with many players need more, and that is exactly why the larger plans exist.

Does the CPU matter for a Minecraft server?

Yes, but you do not need to pick a processor model. The hosting already allocates the right hardware for each plan.

What about NVMe, do I need to worry about it?

NVMe is the type of fast disk where your world is stored. On StreetHosting plans it is already included, so you do not configure anything.
