You accept it by changing **eula=true** in the eula.txt file, or with the equivalent button in your hosting control panel. ## What the EULA is[](https://streethosting.com.br/en/guides/minecraft/what-is-minecraft-server-eula#o-que-e-eula) EULA stands for end user license agreement. For the Minecraft Java Server, it sets the rules on monetization, content ownership and permitted use of the official software. Accepting it is not optional if you want to start the vanilla, Paper or Spigot jar, or a compatible fork. * It protects Mojang/Microsoft and spells out your obligations. * It limits abusive commercial practices on the server. * It is required before the first successful run. ## Why the server asks for it[](https://streethosting.com.br/en/guides/minecraft/what-is-minecraft-server-eula#por-que-servidor-pede) On first startup, Minecraft generates eula.txt with eula=false. The server stops on purpose until you confirm that you have read and agree to the terms at minecraft.net/eula. This prevents accidental use without knowing the rules. Ignoring the EULA does not only block the boot: running a commercial server that breaks the rules can cause legal problems on top of the technical one. ## How to accept the EULA[](https://streethosting.com.br/en/guides/minecraft/what-is-minecraft-server-eula#como-aceitar) 1. Start the server once to generate eula.txt, if it does not exist yet. 2. Open the file in the root of the server folder. 3. Change eula=false to eula=true and save. 4. Restart the server from the control panel or the console. On managed hosting, there is often an Accept EULA toggle in the control panel that makes the same change automatically. Prefer the panel if you are a beginner and do not want to edit a file by hand. * Read the official summary at minecraft.net/eula. * Confirm eula=true before debugging other errors. * Include eula.txt in the server backup routine. * Review the rules for VIP stores if you monetize the project. No. The official Java server software requires explicit acceptance. Without it, the process exits at startup. Is accepting the EULA paying for an extra license? No. The EULA is the set of Mojang/Microsoft terms of use for running a server. Your hosting plan covers the infrastructure, but it does not replace this technical acceptance. Do I need to re-read the EULA on every update? The eula.txt file stays accepted across restarts. Only change it if you reinstall from scratch or restore an old backup that has eula=false.
