It does that job well, but it should not become the server's permanent password. It travels through screens, screenshots and histories, and you do not control where it ended up. On top of that, a Windows VPS with the RDP port open starts receiving automated login attempts a few hours after it goes online. Whoever scans the internet tries common combinations on the Administrator user. Connect to the VPS over RDP with the current password. 2. Inside the session, open the Windows security options screen from the RDP client's tools menu or with the equivalent keyboard shortcut. 3. Choose the option to change the password. 4. Type the current password, then the new password, and repeat the new password to confirm. 5. Confirm and wait for the success message. The security key combination you type on your keyboard is usually captured by your local system, not by the server. The RDP client has an alternative shortcut precisely to send that command to the remote machine, or you can open the same screen from the server's Start menu. Another route is local user management, where you select the account and set a new password.
