Quick answer

To find out **how much RAM a FiveM server needs**, look at your script base first and the players second. On a VPS, count on 4 GB for development, 8 GB with 4 vCPU for up to 32 players, 12 to 16 GB for 32 to 64, and 20 to 32 GB above that. These numbers assume an optimized city; a heavy base goes up one tier.

## RAM table by city size[](https://streethosting.com.br/en/guides/vps/how-much-ram-does-a-fivem-server-need#tabela-jogadores)

The table below assumes a VPS where everything runs together: the operating system, MariaDB, txAdmin and FXServer. These are reference ranges for a roleplay city on a well-known framework with reasonably optimized resources, measured at peak hours with scheduled restarts. They are not a promise: a base with dozens of MLOs and poorly written scripts can ask for double at the same player count.

| Scenario | Peak players | RAM | vCPU | Ryzen 9950X VPS |
| ---------------------------------------- | ------------ | ----------- | ------ | ---------------------- |
| Development and testing | Staff | 4 GB | 2 | R$ 66.00 |
| Small city | Up to 32 | 8 GB | 4 | R$ 118.00 |
| Medium city | 32 to 64 | 12 to 16 GB | 5 to 6 | R$ 170.00 to R$ 222.00 |
| Large city | 64 to 128 | 20 to 24 GB | 7 to 8 | R$ 274.00 to R$ 326.00 |
| Network with a test server and a website | 128 or more | 32 GB | 10 | R$ 430.00 |

The progression is not linear because part of the usage is fixed. The operating system, txAdmin and an empty database take memory before the first player joins, and that floor is the same with 10 people or with 60. What grows with player count is the synced entities, the player states and the database cache. These numbers line up with what is already in the guide on [sizing FiveM on a Ryzen VPS](https://streethosting.com.br/en/guides/vps/fivem-server-sizing-ryzen-vps), which also covers disk and network.

## Ready-made plan or VPS: why the numbers differ[](https://streethosting.com.br/en/guides/vps/how-much-ram-does-a-fivem-server-need#plano-pronto-vs-vps)

If you compare the table above with the ready-made FiveM plans, something looks off: the Master plan has 10 GB for more than 100 players, while the VPS recommended for that player count has 20 GB or more. The difference is what shares the memory.

| FiveM plan | Players | RAM | vCPU | NVMe | Price |
| ---------- | ----------- | ----- | ---- | ----- | --------- |
| Inicial | Up to 20 | 2 GB | 2 | 40 GB | R$ 80.00 |
| Avançado | 40 to 60 | 4 GB | 3 | 50 GB | R$ 150.00 |
| Supremo | 60 to 80 | 6 GB | 4 | 60 GB | R$ 220.00 |
| Master | 100 or more | 10 GB | 5 | 80 GB | R$ 280.00 |
| Ultra | 150 to 200 | 13 GB | 6 | 90 GB | R$ 370.00 |

On the ready-made plan, the operating system and machine maintenance are handled by StreetHosting and the database comes with the hosting, so all the RAM you pay for goes to the city. On a VPS, everything comes out of the same pocket: Linux, MariaDB with its cache, txAdmin, and any extra your team installs, such as a city website, a whitelist bot or a second test server. That is why the VPS needs more headroom for the same player count. In return, it gives you root access, freedom to tune the database and room to run the whole stack on a single machine. The full cost comparison is in [how much a FiveM server costs](https://streethosting.com.br/en/guides/vps/how-much-does-a-fivem-server-cost-in-brazil).

## What makes memory grow[](https://streethosting.com.br/en/guides/vps/how-much-ram-does-a-fivem-server-need#o-que-consome)

FXServer itself is light. What fills the memory is what runs inside it and around it:

* **Resources:** every Lua, JavaScript or C# script keeps its own state in server memory. Inventory, garage, phone, job and faction scripts hold tables that grow with the number of active characters. JavaScript and C# resources depend on runtimes that use more memory than Lua, so a base full of them has a higher floor.
* **OneSync entities:**with OneSync, the server knows about every synced vehicle, pedestrian and object. A garage that spawns all of a player's cars, props left behind by events and abandoned vehicles nobody removes all turn into memory and CPU work until the next restart.
* **Streaming assets:**MLOs, clothing and custom vehicles weigh mostly on disk, on players' download bandwidth and on client memory. On the server, each loaded resource still takes its share, so a huge library adds up.
* **Database:** MariaDB caches the most used tables. The default for `innodb_buffer_pool_size` is 128 MB, which is small for an active city; between 512 MB and 2 GB is the usual setting, depending on database size. The step by step is in [installing MariaDB on the VPS](https://streethosting.com.br/en/guides/vps/install-mariadb-mysql-ubuntu-vps).
* **Leaks:** scripts that register events in a loop, accumulate players who already left or never clear their timers make memory climb all day. It is the number one reason a server opens at 3 GB and closes the night at 7 GB.

txAdmin has a built-in restart scheduler. Two or three windows a day, at empty hours and with a warning to players, take care of most of the leak growth while your team hunts down the guilty script.

## When the problem is not RAM[](https://streethosting.com.br/en/guides/vps/how-much-ram-does-a-fivem-server-need#cpu-thread)

A good share of the cities asking for more memory are actually maxing out the CPU. FXServer runs script logic on a single main thread: if one resource takes too long, the whole server waits, and the console shows `hitch warning` messages. In that scenario, RAM can be half empty and players still feel lag, cars teleporting and an inventory that is slow to open.

For this bottleneck, what helps is high clock speed per core and optimized scripts, not more memory. A 5.7 GHz processor clears the same queue in less time, but no hardware makes up for a resource that queries the database on every frame. The technical reason, and why more vCPU does not always help, is in [single-thread vs multi-thread CPU on servers](https://streethosting.com.br/en/guides/infrastructure/single-thread-vs-multi-thread-cpu). The extra vCPUs in the table serve the database, txAdmin, file streaming and the processes that run alongside the game.

## How to measure real usage[](https://streethosting.com.br/en/guides/vps/how-much-ram-does-a-fivem-server-need#medir)

Before changing plans, measure for a week. Three readings are enough:

1. Total VPS memory, paying attention to the available column, which is what can still be used: `free -h`
2. What is taking it up, in kilobytes of resident memory: `ps -eo pid, comm, rss --sort=-rss | head`
3. The txAdmin dashboard, which shows machine usage and FXServer performance over the day, with the player count alongside.

Take the readings at two moments: right after a restart and at the evening peak, before the next restart. The difference between the two is the daily growth; the peak value is what has to fit with 20% to 30% of headroom. If the available column gets close to zero at peak, the system starts using swap or the kernel kills processes, and FXServer is usually first in line because it is the largest.

Swap prevents an abrupt kill, but it does not replace memory. An FXServer that lives in swap has an unstable tick. Use swap as a safety net and size the RAM so you do not need it at peak.

## Slots, OneSync and license[](https://streethosting.com.br/en/guides/vps/how-much-ram-does-a-fivem-server-need#slots-licenca)

The number of slots does not depend on hardware alone. The server needs a license key generated on the Cfx.re portal, set in `sv_licenseKey`, and the slot limit set in `sv_maxclients` follows the platform's rules:

* **Without OneSync:** maximum of 32 players.
* **With OneSync, up to 48 slots:** no cost.
* **Above 48 slots:** the key must be linked to a paid Element Club tier, starting at Argentum. Without it, the server does not appear in the public list.

In practice, a city that plans to pass 48 players has to add the subscription to its hardware budget. The full installation, with license and txAdmin, is in [installing a FiveM server with txAdmin](https://streethosting.com.br/en/guides/vps/install-fivem-server-txadmin-vps). Element Club tiers and prices change over time; check the [official OneSync documentation](https://docs.fivem.net/docs/scripting-reference/onesync/) before you subscribe.

## Where to run it[](https://streethosting.com.br/en/guides/vps/how-much-ram-does-a-fivem-server-need#onde-rodar)

If your team wants root access, its own database, a test server alongside and full control of the environment, the [Ryzen 9 9950X VPS](https://streethosting.com.br/en/vps/ryzen) delivers the clock speed the FXServer main thread asks for: up to 5.7 GHz, DDR5, NVMe and Anti-DDoS included, in São Paulo. A new city of up to 32 players starts well on the R$ 118.00 plan (4 vCPU, 8 GB, 80 GB NVMe); a city of 32 to 64 players sits between R$ 170.00 (5 vCPU, 12 GB) and R$ 222.00 (6 vCPU, 16 GB). The upgrade is done from the control panel and only charges the prorated difference for the cycle, with one VM restart.

If your team would rather not manage Linux or a database, the [ready-made FiveM plan](https://streethosting.com.br/en/fivem) starts at R$ 80.00 with Inicial, for up to 20 players, and goes up to R$ 370.00 with Ultra, for 150 to 200. For networks that have already passed 128 players across several instances, it is worth reading [VPS or dedicated server for FiveM](https://streethosting.com.br/en/guides/vps/dedicated-server-vs-vps-for-fivem) before deciding the next step.

Buy for the peak you measure today, not the one you hope to have. Moving up a tier takes minutes; paying for empty memory for months cannot be undone.

## Frequently asked questions

How much RAM does a FiveM server with 32 players need?

On a VPS where the operating system, MariaDB, txAdmin and FXServer all run together, 8 GB with 4 vCPU handles a city of up to 32 players with an optimized base well. Cities with many heavy scripts can ask for 12 GB even at that player count.

Can you run FiveM on 4 GB of RAM?

On a VPS, 4 GB works for development, resource testing and a closed city with few players. On a ready-made plan, where the operating system does not compete for that memory, a light city with a lean base can hold a few dozen players on 4 GB.

Why does FiveM RAM usage climb throughout the day?

Because poorly written resources accumulate tables, events and entities that are never released, and the database fills its own cache as it gets used. That is why almost every city schedules restarts through txAdmin, two or three times a day, during empty hours.

Does more RAM make a FiveM server faster?

Only when memory is short. If the VPS already has spare RAM and the server still stutters, the bottleneck is almost always the FXServer main thread, meaning heavy scripts and CPU clock speed. In that case, more memory changes nothing.

How many slots does FiveM allow without paying for an extra license?

With OneSync enabled, up to 48 slots at no cost. Above that, the server key must be linked to a paid Element Club tier, starting at Argentum. Without OneSync, the limit is 32 players.
