Quick answer

On **how much RAM a Palworld server needs**: the developer recommends 16 GB and treats 8 GB as the minimum, with a risk of the server crashing for lack of memory. In practice, 8 GB handles a group of up to 8 players with a daily restart, 16 GB runs 5 to 10 players for several days in a row and 32 GB holds a full server of 32. Memory grows with uptime, so the scheduled restart is part of the sizing.

## What the developer recommends[](https://streethosting.com.br/en/guides/vps/how-much-ram-does-a-palworld-server-need#requisito-oficial)

The official Palworld dedicated server documentation asks for 16 GB of memory, suggests 32 GB or more for comfortable operation and warns that 8 GB will start the server but leaves the process liable to be killed for lack of memory. That is a higher recommendation than many survival games make, and there is a reason for it: the server simulates every Pal in the bases, working, moving and producing, even when the owner is not around.

That does not mean every server needs 32 GB. The official recommendation is aimed at a server that stays up for a long time, with several bases and a reasonable group. With a small group and a daily restart you can run below it, which is what the guide to a [Palworld server on a VPS](https://streethosting.com.br/en/guides/vps/host-palworld-server-brazil) gives as a starting point. The table below shows both situations side by side.

## RAM table by player count[](https://streethosting.com.br/en/guides/vps/how-much-ram-does-a-palworld-server-need#tabela)

| Players | With daily restart | Long uptime | vCPU | Ryzen 9950X VPS |
| -------- | ------------------ | ----------- | ------- | -------------------------------------- |
| 1 to 4 | 8 GB | 12 GB | 4 to 5 | R$ 118.00 (8 GB) or R$ 170.00 (12 GB) |
| 5 to 10 | 8 to 12 GB | 16 GB | 5 to 6 | R$ 170.00 (12 GB) or R$ 222.00 (16 GB) |
| 11 to 20 | 12 to 16 GB | 20 to 24 GB | 6 to 8 | R$ 222.00 to R$ 326.00 |
| 21 to 32 | 16 to 24 GB | 32 GB | 8 to 10 | R$ 326.00 to R$ 430.00 |

The daily restart column assumes a restart every 12 or 24 hours, at an empty hour. The long uptime column applies if you leave the server up for several days or cannot stop the game often, such as groups spread across different time zones. These are reference ranges for bases of ordinary size; a server with a high capture rate and dozens of Pals working in each base can go past the upper limit. The slot cap is set in `ServerPlayerMaxNum`, which defaults to 32.

## Why memory grows with uptime[](https://streethosting.com.br/en/guides/vps/how-much-ram-does-a-palworld-server-need#uptime)

A Palworld server starts out using a few gigabytes and climbs as it runs. Part of that is natural: players explore, the server loads new regions, new bases appear and more Pals get simulated. The other part is memory that never comes back, and the effect shows up even on servers where the same group plays every day. The practical result is a curve: a server that opens with plenty of headroom can run out of memory by day three.

When RAM runs out, the Linux kernel kills the largest process to protect the system, and that process is the game server. Whatever happened since the last autosave is lost. That is why a scheduled restart, with a save beforehand, is not a hack: it is part of normal operation for a Palworld server. Swap helps as a safety net, as the guide to [swap on Ubuntu](https://streethosting.com.br/en/guides/vps/set-up-swap-ubuntu-vps) shows, but a server running on swap gets slow and swap does not replace RAM.

To find your own server's curve, note the process memory right after a restart and repeat the reading every few hours, always with the group playing. The command below lists the processes using the most memory, in kilobytes, and the available column of `free -h` tells you how much is still left for the system:

`ps -eo pid,comm,rss,etime --sort=-rss | head -5 free -h`

The etime column shows how long the process has been running. With three or four readings you know how many gigabytes the server gains per hour and, from that, how often it needs to restart so it never reaches the limit of your plan.

## What drives resource usage[](https://streethosting.com.br/en/guides/vps/how-much-ram-does-a-palworld-server-need#o-que-consome)

* **Pals in the bases:** every working Pal is simulated constantly, with a route, a task and interaction with the structures. This is the biggest CPU factor and one of the biggest for memory.
* **Number of bases:** each guild can have several bases, and every active base keeps its area loaded. Ten players in one guild with three bases weigh less than ten players in ten guilds with three bases each.
* **Spread-out players:** four people together load one region; four people in opposite corners of the map load four.
* **Items on the ground:** accumulated drops become objects in the world until they despawn. Servers with a multiplied drop rate accumulate far more.
* **Events and raids:** attacks on bases spawn groups of enemies and spikes in CPU and memory, especially when they happen at several bases at once.

For CPU, per-core clock speed is what decides. Pal simulation and combat depend on threads that have to finish fast, and a high-clock processor handles the spikes better than one with many slow cores. Follow the memory and CPU curve over the days with the tools from the guide to [monitoring VPS resources with htop and Netdata](https://streethosting.com.br/en/guides/vps/monitor-vps-resources-htop-netdata).

## Settings that lighten the server[](https://streethosting.com.br/en/guides/vps/how-much-ram-does-a-palworld-server-need#ajustes)

A few PalWorldSettings.ini parameters reduce the load without changing what makes the game fun. Stop the server before editing, because it only reads the file at startup:

* **BaseCampWorkerMaxNum:** how many Pals work in each base. Lowering this number a little is the adjustment with the biggest effect on CPU and memory.
* **BaseCampMaxNumInGuild:** how many bases each guild can have. Fewer bases per guild means fewer loaded areas.
* **DropItemMaxNum and DropItemAliveMaxHours:** the cap on items on the ground and how long until they despawn.
* **bEnableInvaderEnemy:** turns base raids on or off. Turning it off removes the spikes, but it also removes part of the challenge.

Change one parameter at a time and compare the memory curve over a few days. Changing everything at once makes it impossible to tell what actually helped.

## Scheduled restart with the REST API[](https://streethosting.com.br/en/guides/vps/how-much-ram-does-a-palworld-server-need#reinicio)

The server has an official REST API that lets you broadcast messages, force a save and shut the server down. Enable it in PalWorldSettings.ini with `RESTAPIEnabled=True` and `RESTAPIPort=8212`, along with a strong `AdminPassword`. Authentication is Basic, with the user admin and that password. With the API on, create the script `/usr/local/bin/reiniciar-palworld.sh`:

`#!/bin/bash API="http://127.0.0.1:8212/v1/api" AUTH="admin:SUA_ADMIN_PASSWORD" JSON="Content-Type: application/json" curl -s -u "$AUTH" -H "$JSON" -X POST "$API/announce" -d '{"message":"Servidor reinicia em 5 minutos"}' sleep 240 curl -s -u "$AUTH" -H "$JSON" -X POST "$API/announce" -d '{"message":"Servidor reinicia em 1 minuto, salvando o mundo"}' sleep 50 curl -s -u "$AUTH" -X POST "$API/save" sleep 10 systemctl restart palworld`

Protect the file, because it holds the password, and schedule it in root's cron, for example at 6 AM and 4 PM:

`sudo chmod 700 /usr/local/bin/reiniciar-palworld.sh sudo crontab -e # add this line: 0 6,16 * * * /usr/local/bin/reiniciar-palworld.sh`

The script assumes the server runs as a systemd service named palworld, as in the installation guide. The cron time syntax is explained in [scheduled tasks with cron](https://streethosting.com.br/en/guides/vps/schedule-tasks-vps-cron).

Never open port 8212 in the firewall. The REST API gives administrative control of the server and should only be reached from inside the VPS itself, at the address 127.0.0.1. The ports players use, such as the game's 8211 UDP, are a different matter and stay open.

## Where to run it[](https://streethosting.com.br/en/guides/vps/how-much-ram-does-a-palworld-server-need#onde-rodar)

Palworld needs fast memory and a high clock at the moments when the bases are full of working Pals, which is the profile of the [Ryzen 9 9950X VPS](https://streethosting.com.br/en/vps/ryzen): up to 5.7 GHz, DDR5 and NVMe in São Paulo, with Anti-DDoS included and root access to configure systemd and cron. A group of friends with a daily restart starts on the R$ 118.00 plan (4 vCPU, 8 GB, 80 GB NVMe). To follow the official recommendation of 16 GB and leave the server up for several days, the plan is the R$ 222.00 one (6 vCPU, 16 GB, 160 GB NVMe). A full server of 32 players fits well on the R$ 430.00 plan (10 vCPU, 32 GB, 320 GB NVMe).

The VPS is activated within 60 seconds after payment. If the memory curve shows the plan has become too small, the upgrade is done through the control panel, charging only the prorated difference for the cycle, with one VM restart that you can fit into the scheduled restart window. Both VPS lines are in the [VPS hub](https://streethosting.com.br/en/vps); for Palworld, the Ryzen is the one to pick for its clock speed.

## Frequently asked questions

Is 8 GB of RAM enough for a Palworld server?

It works for a small group of up to 8 players, as long as the server restarts every day. Without a restart, memory grows with uptime and the process can be killed for lack of RAM. To run several days in a row, reserve 16 GB, which is the developer's own recommendation.

Why does the Palworld server keep using more memory?

Usage grows the longer the server stays up, as the world loads regions, bases and Pals and not everything is released afterward. The effect is well known, and the practical way to deal with it is to restart the server at an empty hour, saving the world first.

How many players fit on a Palworld server?

The default for ServerPlayerMaxNum is 32 players. The practical limit depends on RAM and CPU: a group of 32 with large bases needs something close to 32 GB and 10 vCPU to get through the day without stutters.

How do I restart a Palworld server without losing progress?

Enable the REST API in PalWorldSettings.ini, warn players through the announce endpoint, force a save through the save endpoint and only then restart the service. A script in cron does all of this by itself at an empty hour.

Does more vCPU help a Palworld server?

Up to a point. Pals working in the bases and players spread across the map generate a lot of CPU load, and per-core clock speed matters more than core count. For large groups, 6 to 10 high-clock vCPU prevent lag in the Pals and in combat.
