Windows VPS with RDP access in Brazil

Before price, settle the licensing. There are two paths: the licence coming with the VPS you buy, charged along with the machine, or you bringing your own key. That depends on the plan, so confirm it on the product page or with support before you order the install. With no activation, Windows Server enters an evaluation period: it works for a while, then warns you on screen and starts rebooting itself at short intervals.

The second licensing layer shows up once more than one person uses the machine. Windows Server accepts two simultaneous administrative sessions by default, which covers the owner and a technician. Going beyond that requires enabling the Remote Desktop Services role and licensing access per user, a software decision rather than a hosting plan one.

A lean Linux install sits at a few hundred megabytes with the machine idle. Windows Server keeps a graphical interface and a long queue of services loaded with nobody connected, so compare plans by what is left free. 4GB is the comfortable floor for one user and 8GB the step up once a database, many tabs or a second session arrive: on the table that is the difference between R$ 40 and R$ 74 on the Xeon line, or between R$ 47 and R$ 85 on the Ryzen Budget one.

The processor is rarely the bottleneck in RDP use. The disk usually is: Windows writes all the time to logs, indexing, the paging file and updates. That is where NVMe changes how the machine feels, because the short freezes in the middle of your work come from slow storage, not from missing cores.

As soon as the machine gets a public IP, bots start looking for port 3389. It is not a targeted attack: a compromised Windows server becomes a base for mining, spam and reselling access, so the scanning is indiscriminate. Dozens of login attempts a day is normal behaviour for any public IP, not a sign that you became a target.

The defence is built in layers and none of them is enough on its own. A long, unique password on the Administrator account, a firewall opening the port only to your address when the IP is fixed, the default port changed to cut the noise of automated scanning, Network Level Authentication demanding a credential before the server even draws the login screen, and a temporary account lockout after failed attempts. Then open Event Viewer: the failed logons carry time and origin, and they work as a thermometer of your exposure.

Every restrictive firewall rule carries the same risk: one scope typed wrong and you lock yourself outside. The same goes for a changed port written down wrong, a lost password and an update that hangs the boot. The graphical console in the panel solves those cases because the image comes from the hypervisor, not from a service inside Windows: it keeps working with the system network blocked and shows even the startup screen.

The console does not replace RDP day to day. It streams raw video, responds slowly and usually has no shared clipboard or folder mapping, so treat it as a rescue tool. If the screen comes up black, it is usually the virtual monitor resting: click inside it and press an ordinary key.
